Clifford L. Prout, 83, died Sunday at his residence.
He was born in Scarborough, a son of Winfield L. and Blanch Beckwith Prout, and graduated from Scarborough High School.
Mr. Prout was the owner of the Clifford Prout Insurance Co. for more than 20 years. He also worked part time in the heating installation business in South Portland, Portland and Scarborough.
Mr. Prout was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Scarborough and South Portland and the Oak Hill Grange in Scarborough, and was a charter member of the Scarborough Lions Club.
He was a volunteer for the Scarborough Fire Department. He loved hunting, fishing, saw sharpening, playing cards and building doll houses.
His wife, Josephine E. Prout, died in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Joseph W. of Windham; two daughters, Sally Abrahamson of Falmouth and Susan Cousens of Windham; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
