Eleanor Morrissey of San Luis Obispo died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002. She was born Eleanor Bird on Aug. 28, 1928 in Oakland. Her parents were Clyde Bird and Tillie Andersen Bird.
She attended Berkeley High School and received a bachelor's degree in education from UC Berkeley. She taught school in Oakland and San Jose and Peoria, Ill., where she earned a master's degree in education from Illinois State University.
She is survived by her husband, Philip Morrissey; her children, son, Mark of St. Petersburg, Fla., and daughter, Margaret of Portland, Ore.; and her brother, Clyde of Concord.
Eleanor enjoyed her family and many friends. She was at home in the outdoors and frequently camped and backpacked with her husband and young children. She always enjoyed her garden and her home. In her retirement, she had been active in the San Luis Obispo Country Club women's groups. She also served on the Board of San Luis Country Club Estates. She was active in the CYA women's investment group, and was becoming a member of the Book Browsers book club. Eleanor was socially oriented and tried to bring people together. She enjoyed traveling and learning about other cultures and organized a potluck food group to share that interest with her friends. Eleanor will be missed by her family and many friends.
