James Leon Zumwalt, 90, of Tyler, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, in Tyler.
He was born on April 6, 1918, in McBaine to the late Grover and Rosa Lee Zumwalt. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Zumwalt worked for many years as a master plumber. He was a faithful member of Tyler Gospel Chapel.
He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 57 years, Martha Lee Zumwalt of Tyler, formerly of Moberly; five sons, William Earl Zumwalt of Higbee, Russell Zumwalt and wife Betty of Tyler, Thomas Zumwalt and wife Frieda of Phoenix, Tim L. Zumwalt and wife Theresa of Tyler, and Daniel L. Zumwalt and wife Melissa of Tyler; two daughters, Brenda G. Talley and husband Lester of Barnesville, Ga., and Linda D. Macon and husband Tommy of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Moberly; daughter-in-law Evelyn Zumwalt of Joplin; two brothers, Donald B. Zumwalt and wife Marie of Ashland and Frank Burton Root and wife Barbara of Joplin; two sisters, Mary O'Dell Acton of Columbia and Martha Alred and husband Bob of Willard; 32 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Zumwalt was preceded in death by two sons, John R. Zumwalt and James M. Zumwalt; son-in-law Weldon Hunt; two grandchildren, Ray Lee Zumwalt and Robby Mooneyham; and four sisters.
